James Lost control of the horse and it finally threw him violently against a tree as it ran through the forest. He was instantly killed. The compiler of this data, J.C. Lambertson, wishes to state that another brother of James, Robert N. Lambertson, told the story of James' death to him a number of times. His account differs a little from the above. He stated the accident resulting in James' death occurred about 1834 and just across the Ohio River in Kentucky instead of in Indiana, and that it was late in the afternoon when the accident happened, and that the body was brought home about dawn the next morning without any warning whatever to his people. James was married, but do not know to whom. They had only one son as far as is known now.

Family History written by Maria Eva Stanley Lambertson: at the age of 21, Robert Nelson Lambertson accompanied his brother-in-law to Springfield, Illinois. In a few months he went to Starke County to work on the farm of Jacob Emory for whom he continued to work for 4 1/2 years at the wage of $12 per month. During that time Robert went to Iowa and purchased land from the government at $1.25 per acre which he still owns. On March 11, 1857, he was married to Maria Eva Stanley near Victoria, Knox Co., Illinois. In 1867 they went to Iowa and settled on the farm he had purchased. Robert united with the Methodist Church in 1905.
Family history from the records of James P. Lambertson dated 1917: Uncle Bob and Aunt Maria, as we called them, were friends to everyone who wished to do right; but they had no contenance for deceit or untruthfulness. When they made an assertion, we all knew it to be the truth. Their home was always the headquarters for love, peace and good cheer, as well as for warm hospitality.
Uncle Robert was raised a farmer and always farmed industriously, and while he was raised between two rows of corn, he was no "punkin."
He taught farming to his sons and they all grew up to be successful farmers. He never aspired to office. I don't think he ever held a public office unless it was school director or road supervisor, and I think he got out of that as soon as possible. Truthfulness and strict honesty was his motto and he never deviated from it.
Aunt Maria was one of God's noblewomen. She loved her children, her friends and her Saviour, and she pitied her enemies, if she had any, which I doubt. She was for many years, and at the time of her death, a member of the Methodist Church and a happy Christian. She died assured of a blessed immortality, always having been a good wife and mother and making her home a model of love and industry.
